RNID launch Healthier Lives project
The Healthier Lives project was launched on 18th June at the
Ulster Folk and
The Lifelong Learning Team within Learning and Development, have won
the National Healthcare People Management Association Award for Innovation in
HR with their work on the Unleashing Talent Passport.
The Unleashing Talent Passport is a Level 2 Qualification based on the
6 Core Dimensions of the NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework (KSF) and is
targeted at Band 1 and 2 staff. With Essential Skills Literacy embedded
into it, participants achieve 2 qualifications as part of their learning
journey. The qualification is focused on service need and closely links
participants’ job roles to the training provided. The project used
this qualification as a means of accrediting the induction journey for staff
within their KSF Foundation Gateway year.

Keep It Clear with EGSA – half
day plain English course
Want to learn how to make your organisation’s written material
clear and easy to understand?
EGSA’s popular half day training session aims to raise awareness of plain
English techniques and the importance of reaching as wide an audience as
possible. The course is aimed at anyone whose work (paid or voluntary)
involves writing regularly. This can include letters, flyers, reports,
booklets, factsheets and PowerPoint presentations.

factsheets covering a comprehensive range of subjects related to adult
learning. The factsheets have been designed to help adult learners, and
those who advise them, make choices about courses and careers. To view

NEWS IN e-BRIEF…
New Support Providers required for
2010/2011 at Queen’s University
Queen’s Register of Support Providers provides one-to-one support
to disabled students studying at Queen’s University Belfast.
The Register recruits and manages pools of suitably qualified and
experienced Support Providers to work with students in a number of specialist,
non-medical support roles. Support Providers work on a freelance basis at
competitive hourly rates of pay and complimentary training is provided
throughout the year across a range of areas and topics.
Opportunities at Queen’s are available for new Support Providers
in a number of areas, particularly in those roles where demand is highest i.e.
Study Skills Tutors, Dyslexia Tutors, Academic Mental Health Tutors and
Note Takers.

Creativity Thirst: Free programme in
Omagh,
Following on from other highly successful programmes, this project is a
result of collaboration between the Workers’ Educational Association and
other partners across the province. The programme is offered free and is made
possible by the Creative Industries Innovation Fund which is supported by the
Arts Council of Northern Ireland and the Department of Culture Arts and Leisure

Last Chance to Explore your
Opportunities in Dungannon
Throughout the summer Dungannon Enterprise Centre will be recruiting
for the final Exploring Enterprise programme, which will run August/September.
This free programme has been designed specifically to help unemployed
and under represented groups to get back into the labour market by exploring
the self employment option. The programme will provide you with a
knowledge of running your own business and you will also receive the Level 2
Certificate for Business Enterprise.
Your personal mentor will help you throughout the programme ensuring
that you get as much out of it as possible. In 6 weeks they will help you
to explore ideas, find out how to get and keep customers, source business
finance, and give you a summary of the legal issues involved in setting up a
business.
The programme is fully funded by the Department for Employment and
Learning through the European Social Fund. Benefits are not affected by

Digital Participation programme is
rescoped!
The Digital Participation programme led by Ofcom has been rescoped by
the government as part of the public expenditure review. The limited
funding that was available will be focused on supporting the activities of the http://raceonline2012.org
campaign led by the UK Digital Champion, Martha Lane Fox.
Sadly this will have an impact on many funding applications to help
people get online, but the hope is that everyone will continue their support
