Challenge Hate Crime

Official launch of the three year ‘Challenge Hate Crime’ project, supported by Unite against Hate will take place on 14 December. NIACRO has joined forces with the NI Prison Service to carry out a new project with the goal of reducing hate crime through intensive support for people who have committed this sort of offence. Working to achieve this goal will include: improving the level of debate and understanding around hate crime (especially when motivated by sectarianism); developing a definition of sectarian hate crime; extending the debate beyond the criminal justice system; designing and piloting a workable, effective model of helping offenders – in custody and in the community -  tackle their offending; increasing the skills of those working with offenders; sharing the learning through seminars and publications. For more information please contact Monica Fitzpatrick at monica@niacro.co.uk.

The Thin End of the Wedge Awards Ceremony

The Thin End of the Wedge is a multi layered accredited training programme dealing directly with the causes and effects of racism and sectarianism through understanding the history of the Holocaust and its causal roots. The project aims to improve community relations and tackle sectarianism and racism by forging lasting links with local community activists, ex-prisoners, former paramilitaries and ethnic communities in the Northern Ireland. Awards ceremony for all first year groups, which took part in this significant good relations/anti-racism project will take place in Stormont on 16 December. During the ceremony representatives of all groups will sign up to the Unite against Hate Call. For more information please visit Project WEBSITE.
