Anti-Slavery Society Medal

This representation of an African in chains was designed for the seal of the Anti Slavery Society in 1787.

It reads:
“Am I not a man and a brother?”

Josiah Wedgewood manufactured it as a china plaque, for the lids of snuff boxes, as a jasper cameo and as jewellery.  In the early 1790s these were widely distributed.
