My mother and father are originally from Dromore and I was born, in Banbridge, on 31st March 1940.  I grew up in Dromore during the war.

My grandparents all lived in Dromore and I remember my Granny Leckey used to have a thatched cottage that we loved going to stay at. It was 3 storeys, with stone floors, and we used to love having to keep the fire going with the bellows.

Our family included my mother and father, me and my sister Brenda, and two brothers - Jim and George.

Some of my memories of being small include my dad, when he used to swim across the Lagan, and my mum staying home to look after us while dad went to work; he was a slinger working on the cranes.

We moved to Belfast when I was 2 years old.
